How to Care For Dry Skin Throughout the Year
Author: Louise Forrest
During the winter the cold winds can make it very uncomfortable to people who are suffering from dry skin, as the low levels of humidity literally takes away any moisture content that your skin needs.
As a result of this lack of moisture it is quite common for fine lines and even deep wrinkles to appear as well as the face looking dull, dry, rough and also flaky in appearance. The fact that you are looking older than your years can make you feel quite upset, but there is no need to feel dry as there are many products that are available that will help to soothe the skin and to help to restore the moisture that the skin needs.
It is not just skin care products that are needed but you also need to be able to control the environment in which you work and also live. For instance during the winter, your skin is exposed to the chilling winds then when you enter your home you are in an environment that is very warm. This warmth takes away any moisture that may be in the air, and also will affect the moisture that exists within your skin.
But you can buy products such as humidifiers and can help to keep a level of moisture within the air of your home, and they are quite affordable.
Make sure that you are moisturising your skin and body on a regular basis especially if you are feeling that your skin is becoming quite rough. But you do not want to use products that will not be absorbed into the skin and just sit on the surface. This is of no real benefit as it will not help penetrate the layers of the skin and therefore helping to lock in moisture.
You can also try to use oil based products such as cod liver oil in order to help keep your body lubricated from within. Drink lots of water as this also helps to keep the skin from becoming dehydrated as well as being very beneficial to your overall state of health.
Now during the winter months you may not actually hear the following advice but you should still wear sun block in order to avoid contact with the rays of the sun and this is also on a day that is not even sunny. For instance if the ground is icy and the sun is shining, whilst it still may be cold, the rays of the sun are being reflected by the ice onto your skin. This is why it is important to still use a form of sun lotion during the winter.
One thing that does tend to get ignored when it comes to caring for the skin is also caring for the lips and this is quite different to the skin on the face and also on the body. If you are finding that your lips are constantly chapped and dry you need to make sure that you are getting supplements. Vaseline is very good for helping to treat very dry lips, and this should be used as opposed to wetting the lips with your tongue as this can actually make matters worse than they already are.
